King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London. The coronation will involve King Charles being crowned and Camilla being crowned Queen.
What is a coronation?
A coronation is both the symbolic religious ceremony during which a sovereign is crowned and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch’s head. It formalises the monarch’s role as the head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of their title and powers.

On Saturday 6th May, the coronation will be televised on the BBC starting in the morning.
Sunday 7th May

Also on Saturday, the public are encouraged to participate in the Coronation Big Lunch. This is when lots of local street parties and celebrations will take place with food, drinks and games.
Monday 8th May
This will be an extra bank holiday and the public are encouraged to take part in The Big Help Out. This is where you can take part in volunteering to support local communities and charities.
