Arguably the sweetest world day of the year, this 17th August, we’re celebrating the honey bees at Wildshark!
But why are honey bees so important?
Without bees (and thousands of other insect species that call the UK home), it wouldn’t be long before our ecosystem collapsed. Bees pollinate our wild trees and wild flowers, which then support other insects, which then support birds, bats, mammals and everything up the food chain with food and shelter.
There are around 70 crops in the UK that depend or benefit from bee pollination. Pollination by honey bees, wild bees and bumblebees is incredibly valuable for farmers. It is estimated that it would cost UK farmers £1.8 billion a year to pollinate their crops manually if wild bees disappeared.

Bee’s are so important in the life-cycle of Wildshark. Did you know we have bee hives in the woods? They help pollinators but they also have the benefit of producing sun-enriched natural honey which we can’t wait to try!
Bees are so important to us that we made them the focus of our beautiful artisan Gin labels!
