Cracking Easter Pairings

Posted by the Elite team. 1st April 2021

With just a couple of weeks to go until pubs and restaurants reopen, we’ll be spending yet another Easter at home with our loved ones. If you’re having a socially-distanced celebration this weekend, impress your family and friends with these handpicked wines – the perfect accompaniment to our Easter favourites, and all of the chocolate feasting in between!

For those wanting to indulge in cod this Easter weekend, try pairing with Chapel Down’s Bacchus. We’ve done the “hard work” testing and trialling a number of delicate white wines to accompany the delicate white fish – and believe us when we say this is the one. The delicacy of the wine is topped off with green apple notes, which complements the cod perfectly.

If there’s a leg of lamb on your table this Easter Sunday – this one is for you. We’ve handpicked two red wines for you to choose from – the Rioja Crianza Vivanco and the Rioja Reserva Vivanco. If your taste buds enjoy a more mellow wine, we;d recommend that you opt for the Reserva. Alternatively, if you prefer something bigger, bolder and more vibrant, the Crianza is for you. Both wines boast a mild tannin to pair with the mild meat, with enough crispiness to complement the fattier style of lamb.

It wouldn’t be Easter without hot cross buns. If you fancy a drink to accompany this seasonal favourite, we recommend going for Royal Tokaji. The dessert wine will complement the sweet bread notes from the hot cross buns – you’ll be sure to impress with this pairing!

And for all the chocolate feasting in between, stock up on Bolney Estate Pinot Noir. The fresh red fruits in the wine work well with the bitter notes of the chocolate, which will have the chocolate tasting like a gâteaux! You can thank us later for this one…

Whatever you choose to eat or drink this Easter weekend, we hope you have a great one!
